In this course, we are going to learn the essentials of permit-to-work systems that describe good practices in occupational safety and health.

Permit-tow-work will be particularly useful to the onshore and offshore petroleum industry, onshore chemical and allied industries and other industries. The potential for serious incidents in these industries is clear, and permit-to-work systems are a vital part of effective management of the hazards. This course will help students to learn the basics of permit-to-work systems. Before they start working, employers and their workers should agree on the details of the system and sign the agreement. These details include the type of workers that are allowed to work for a particular company, what activities these workers will be doing while working, whether they will be using specific machines, etc. Workers can also sign a contract in which they agree that they will not be doing anything illegal or unsafe while they are working for the company. It is essential for a worker to be knowledgeable about the permit-to-work system. Workers need to know how the company manages health and safety. They should also know the different risks that might threaten their safety and health. A permit-to-work system will ensure that no one is exposed to these risks and that workers are properly trained. It is also good to have a training program for workers.
